Dr. Krista Gavel
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
I was born and raised in Antigonish NS, then attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro NS. I completed three years of a B.Sc in Agriculture with a major in Animal Science before being accepted to the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown PEI.
After graduating in May 2008, I moved to High River along with my two cats Fozzie and Otis to start working with Dr. Dave Dempsey at Highview Animal Clinic. One year later I acquired a rescued racing greyhound named Sadie.
In 2010 I met my husband Joel and acquired a lab named Parker. We got married in 2012 and that same year we became part-owners at Highview Animal Clinic. In October 2014 we welcomed our first baby, a son named Lane and December of 2016 brought our second son, Frankie.
When not at work I enjoy playing volleyball, reading, camping, running, hiking, baking and making trips to NS to visit family and friends.
Dr. Meghan Shields
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
I was born and raised in Banff. I attended Olds College to complete my Veterinary Technician Diploma and then worked as a vet tech at Moore Equine for 2 years before deciding to go back to school to pursue veterinary medicine. I began a Bachelor of Science in psychology and biological sciences and then graduated with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Calgary in 2021. I grew up riding horses competitively and have a love for all animals. I am very excited to return to Highview Animal Clinic after completing two placements here. I am grateful for the opportunity to work in a mixed animal practice in a small community where I can build meaningful relationships with clients and their animals.
In my spare time I love going on adventures with my Rottie, Zeppelin, running, swimming, and gardening.

I grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2020. Pursuing an interest in mixed animal practice, I started at Highview Animal Clinic shortly after graduation, and am excited for the opportunity to work with such a varied caseload.
When I’m not working, I enjoy hiking, camping, running, playing soccer, and snowboarding.
Dr. Jasmine Dueck
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
I was born and raised in Nigeria, and moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan for my high school years. I graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in Animal Bioscience in 2016, and then received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2020. I worked in a rural mixed animal practice in North Battleford, Saskatchewan for 2 years before relocating to High River. I enjoy the variety and diversity that working in a mixed animal practice brings.
When not working, I enjoy running, horseback riding, hiking, camping, fishing, snowboarding, and visiting family in Saskatchewan whenever possible.
Dr. Kimberly Stewart
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and I completed an undergrad in Zoology from the University of Calgary. From there I went on to complete my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine with Distinction at the University of Calgary and gradated in 2021. I completed a yearlong equine internship at Moore Equine after graduation and even though I have a strong passion for equine medicine, I still wanted to work with all the other four-legged furry creatures as well. I am looking forward to working in a mixed practice setting and the variety it has to offer.
When I am not working I enjoy riding horses, spending time with my fiancé and family and curling up with a good book.
